The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, Commandant Usman Alfadarai has received Major Martin Domkat, the newly appointed acting Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion (Rear) of the Nigerian Army, at NSCDC State headquarters in Umuahia, Abia State.
During the visit, Major Domkat emphasized the critical need for inter-agency cooperation, mutual support, and intelligence sharing between the military and the NSCDC to ensure security and peace in Abia State.
He highlighted how the existing synergy he met on ground between the Army and the NSCDC had proven to be more efficient in operations that bordered on safeguarding lives and properties in the state and urged the State Commandant to maintain the tempo.
Responding, Commandant Alfadarai expressed his gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to a close working relationship with the Nigerian Army, saying that inter-agency collaboration in maintaining law and order in Abia State was important.
He assured the acting Commanding Officer that the NSCDC would continue to work hand-in-hand to achieve a peaceful and secure environment.
Similarly, a group, the Abia Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta has appealed for partnership with the NSCDC to promote peace and resolve conflicts in the Niger Delta region.
The Secretary of the pro-Niger Delta group, Mrs Nna Nelly Nnenna, who led the delegation during the visit, said there were needs to promote peaceful coexistence in Niger Delta, particularly in violent-prone areas in Abia State.
Welcoming the proposal, Abia State Commandant of NSCDC, Usman Alfadari acknowledged the need for collective action in maintaining peace and stability in the State, explaining that part of the mandates of the Corps is peace and conflict resolution through alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Alfadari promised the NSCDC’s collaboration with the group in a peace drive and in resolution of conflicts across Abia State.
