No fewer than 31 persons lost their lives to recent floods in different parts of Kano State.
Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Isiaku Kubarachi, confirmed this figure to journalists on Wednesday.
He said the flood occurred in 21 of the 44 local government areas of the state.while adding that iit njured 135 persons and destroyed 5,280 houses
The disaster also led to the destruction of 2,518 farmlands, covering 976 hectares of land ,he said
The affected local governmen areas according to himi ncluded Wudil, Gwale, Nassarawa, Dala, Tarauni, Dawakin-Tofa, Dambatta, among others.
He recalled that the state government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, took proactive measures before the rainy season to safeguard lives and properties.
This included clearing blockages in drains and evacuating refuse to ensure smooth water flow during the rain, he added.
