The terrorists who abducted over 286 students and staff of a school in Kuriga, Chikum Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have demanded the payment of a huge amount of money in dollars as ransom for the release of the students and teachers to avoid devastating consequences.
The dare devil terrorists specifically gave an ultimatum and demanded for the payment of N1 billion ($620,432) ransom within 20 days, effective from the date of the kidnap or they will kill all the students and the staff if their demand is not met.
The Kuriga primary and secondary school children and members of staff of the school were abducted on March 7, 2024.
Reuters report said a community leader, Jubril Aminu, who acts as a spokesman for the families of the victims, said he received a phone call from the kidnappers on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 during which the terrorists demanded that for all the pupils, students and staff to be released, they are demanding for N1 billion .
Aminu was quoted as having said; “They gave an ultimatum to pay the ransom within 20 days, effective from the date of the kidnap. They said they will kill all the students and the staff if the ransom demand is not met.”
Similarly, an elected official from the Kuriga Ward Municipal Council, Hon Idris Ibrahim, who also confirmed the demand of the terrorists and the ultimatum, said the kidnappers called and spoke with the community through Jubril Aminu’s number during which they made their demand known.
Ibrahim said; “They called from a hidden number but the authorities are working on getting the number. The security forces are taking adequate measures to secure the release of the students and staff.
Speaking on the kidnap of the Kaduna students and staff on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the Minister of information, Mr Mohammed Idris, said that President Bola Tinubu’s stance, remains that security forces should secure the victims’ release and not the payment of any ransom.
