The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has disclosed that the prompt and effective delivery of ongoing infrastructural projects by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, will be a decisive factor in the voting behavior of the Igbo electorate in the upcoming 2027 elections.
The group said that their collective decision at the ballot box will be guided not by party loyalties but by the clarity of performance and the authenticity of conscience.
The group, in a statement on Friday by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has broken from tradition of marginalisation of Ndigbo.
“It speaks to a deeper narrative of systemic marginalization that has fueled discontent and agitation over the years. For over two decades, the region has suffered from a severe absence of federal investment, with roads deteriorating into perilous conditions that threaten the safety and prosperity of our communities. This decay constitutes not only a physical obstruction to progress but also a symbolic barrier to the rightful inclusion and empowerment of the Southeast in Nigeria’s national agenda.
“For the first time in years, the federal government is prioritising the rehabilitation and construction of vital road networks in the Southeast, rectifying decades of neglect.
“The approval for extensive projects such as the Makurdi-Nsukka, Night Mile-Enugu, and Calabar-Ikot Ekpene, Aba expressways is a welcome relief.
“Additionally, the initiatives to enhance the Anambra-Kogi Interstate, Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt, Ohafia-Arochukwu, and many more routes are evidence of a commitment to infrastructure that will invigorate the socio-economic lifeblood of our region”.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated that infrastructural advancements spearheaded by Senator Umahi will fundamentally influence their electoral decisions.
“We are advocating for the restructuring of Nigeria, which includes the creation of a sixth Southeast state. However, it is essential that we acknowledge and appreciate the progress made under President Tinubu, particularly the significant improvements in federal road networks executed by our own Igbo leader, Senator Umahi. His vigorous and dedicated efforts over the past 14 months have rejuvenated confidence in governance, cutting across political affiliations”.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo urged the entirety of the Igbo electorate to view these infrastructural achievements as a testament to effective governance and a commitment to regional development.
“We are committed more than ever to ensuring that our votes are guided by tangible results and responsible leadership that echoes our aspirations for equity, progress, and unity”.
