Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Taraba state chapter, on Wednesday, endorsed Governor Agbu Kefas for the 2027 governorship election.
Alh. Mamudu Famlak Yaro, the NUP state chairman made the declaration during the flag-off ceremony for payment and pay-rolling of 1134 local government retirees, at the Taraba state local government staff pension Board Jalingo.
The chairman disclosed that the senior citizens were moved by the governor’s priority for the well-being of retirees, and the continued efforts to redefine governance that has so far attracted transformation in all sectors, placing Taraba on the global map of development.
According to Alh. Mamudu, Taraba was rated 3rd, among states with exceptional commitment for the welfare of retirees in the last NUP National meeting in Abuja.
“We wish to sincerely commend Governor Agbu Kefas for his passion for the wellbeing of both local government and state retirees.
Considering the governor’s commitment to the well-being of retirees, Taraba state was rated 3rd among states with exceptional commitment for senior citizens which earns him a chance for the NUP National award.
“As senior citizens of Taraba, we wish to declare our total support for governor Agbu Kefas in the 2027 governorship election. This endorsement is to appreciate the governor for the work done so far that has placed Taraba on the global map among top best Nigeria states”. The state NUP chairman declared.
Mamudu Famlak also expressed gratitude for the pay-rolling of Comr. Elnathan Bila Auta, who was never a member of the NUP but has been parading himself as state chairman of the association, was the end of an era.
“It is now clear for those that have been asking questions of whether Taraba NUP has two chairmen. The acclaimed chairman Comrade ElNathan Bila Auta, has never been a member of NUP until today. You can not be a member of an association and be its chairman.
“ElNathan has just been pay-rolled today which makes him an automatic member as defined by the Constitution”. The NUP chairman expressed.
Meanwhile, Hon. Abel Peter Diah, the chairman Taraba State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed that Governor Kefas was committed to ensuring good governance in both infrastructural and human development.
The former state assembly’s speaker commended the retirees for their patience and appealed for more support to Governor Kefas’ administration to succeed.
Earlier, mr. Andrew Dame the permanent secretary Bureau for Local Government, traditional and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the executive secretary, Taraba State Local Government Pension Board, Mr. Thomas Daniel Maiyanga, both commended Governor Kefas for the gesture.
They described the screening, documentation, and pay-rolling of an additional 1134 Local Government retirees across 16 LGAs for monthly pension payment as Kefas’ passion for humanity and the mind to weep away the
tears of the struggling parents who have served in different capacities of government.
“Your Excellency sir, we are very much grateful for this gesture done again to these retirees within the shortest period of your administration. The first approval was granted in June 2023, when 1166 LG retirees who had waited for some years, could not be pay-rolled but were pay-rolled just within Two months of your assumption in office.
“Today, you have put smile again on the faces of another set of 1134. This development is a clear indication that you are pensioners friendly governor, and we pray God to give you the wisdom to succeed,” they commended.
Responding on behalf of the newly pay-rolled retirees, Comr. Elnathan Bila Auta thanked Governor Kefas for considering the plight retirees were in.
Auta calls on all pensioners in Taraba to commence a campaign for the re-election of Governor Kefas in the 2027 governorship election.
