Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, a Christian group has expressed support for former Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, stating that a leader like him is needed to continue the transformational initiatives he started in the state.
It should be recalled that Ambode served as Lagos State governor from 2015 to 2019 but lost his party’s (All Progressives Congress – APC) ticket for a second term to the incumbent Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
However, former Governor Ambode has continued to receive calls to join the 2027 governorship race.
The group, under the aegis of the North Central Christian Forum (NCCF), Lagos State chapter, made the latest call in a statement signed by its chairman, Pastor Timothy Zakari. A copy of the statement was made available to newsmen on Monday. It described Ambode’s four-year tenure as one of the most remarkable since the return to democracy in 1999.
Pastor Zakari, who spoke at a Christmas Carol, said a humane and compassionate leader was needed in Lagos, especially someone like Ambode, who had a deep understanding of the city and its peculiar challenges.
According to him, leaders have come and gone, but former Governor Ambode remains a delight to most Lagosians due to the several life-changing initiatives he embarked upon, especially in the area of human capital development and capacity building.
He added that Ambode provided platforms for the youth to learn skills that would make them not only employable but also employers of labor. “Today, the fruit of those initiatives is felt across families in Lagos,” he said.

“We have seen leaders come and go, but former Governor Ambode remains a delight to most Lagosians because of the many life-changing initiatives he embarked upon, especially in the area of human capital development and capacity building. He provided platforms for our young people to learn skills that will make them not only employable but also employers of labor. Today, the fruits of those initiatives are felt across families in Lagos.”
“He made a huge investment in Lagos infrastructure, leading to a massive decongestion of traffic in the commercial city. Transportation, which has remained a source of concern, received a boost under Ambode as the waterways were made safer for our people to move freely and transport their goods,” Zakari stated.
He said that a vote for Ambode would set Lagos on a path of greater progress, adding that re-electing Ambode as governor of Lagos State would be a significant boost for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
He, therefore, called on the ruling APC to give former Governor Ambode the right of first refusal for the party’s ticket due to his loyalty to the party, the Lagos State Government, and President Tinubu.
