Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians to be prepared to defend their votes in 2027.
The former Transport Minister gave the charge in his contribution as one of the discussants at the just concluded national conference on strengthening democracy in Nigeria, organised by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development.
Amaechi who recalled the role played by the erstwhile main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress in the ouster of former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 maintained that opposition parties and the people must be determined to go extra mile in defending the sanctity of the ballot.

He said: “None of you here seated can defend the votes. If you have complained, complain, Nigerians have been clapping for you.
“The only way Ibrahim Shekarau became governor was because people lined up.
“You are talking and abusing everybody. Nobody has power and will give it to you — not even me. If you want a pastor as president, go and get one.
“The politician is there in Nigeria to steal, maim, and kill to remain in power. If you think Tinubu will give it to you, you are wasting your time.”
