The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development by allocating 25% of the 2025 budget to education and 15% to health.
This announcement was made during the 2025 Sokoto State Citizens Budget Discussion held at the Sultan Maccido Institute of Quranic and General Studies.
Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of collaboration with development partners, including the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), USAID State2State, and the World Bank, to foster growth in key sectors.
He praised the contributions of civil society organizations, religious leaders, women, and youth groups to the planning process.
“This administration will continue to sustain and improve on the current practice of the State Fiscal Transparency and Accountability sustainability and other related programs that focuses on strengthening Fiscal Monitoring, Accountability and Transparent manner in the conduct of Government Business.”
Highlighting the participatory approach in budget preparation, he lauded the annual Citizens Budget Discussion as a platform for engaging stakeholders in shaping the state’s fiscal policies.
He emphasized the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in budgetary processes to address the citizens’ concerns effectively.
Governor Aliyu assured attendees that the administration would prioritize strengthening fiscal transparency and accountability programs aligned with its nine-point Smart Agenda.

Dr. Aminu Ladan, the State Team Lead for USAID State2State, commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for donor agencies.
He confirmed that the requested budgetary allocations for health, education, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities were approved, with 15% and 25% allocated to health and education, respectively.
“We will continue to partner with the Sokoto State Government to develop key sectors such as education, health, and WASH facilities,” Dr. Ladan said, adding that USAID State2State would ensure the budgetary commitments are fulfilled through collaboration with the Ministry of Budget and the Sokoto State House of Assembly.
