The Zamfara State office of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has raised the alarm over the high rate of human rights violations in the state.
The State Coordinator of the NHRC, Abdullahi Abubakar, pointed out that records indicated that over 120 cases of human rights violations were recorded in 2024.
He added that the cases include abuse, neglect and the infringement of fundamental freedoms.
The NHRC commemorated the 2024 World Human Rights Day with a rally to create awareness on the importance of protecting human rights in the state.
The rally, which started at Freedom Square and ended at the palace of Emir of Gusau, had participants from various sectors including civil society organizations, CSOs, and community leaders.
The state coordinator of NHRC urged the Zamfara State government to implement relevant laws that were passed by the previous government in a big to check human rights violations.
