Millions of Nigerian football fans are excited following a statement from MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, stating that its sports channel, SuperSport will broadcast all 52 matches at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The announcement came after MultiChoice last week announced that SuperSport will not be broadcasting all 52 2023 AFCON matches to its customers because it could not secure the rights.
In a post on its X (formerly Twitter ) account on Wednesday, MultiChoice reversed its earlier statement, noting that all 52 matches of the 2023 Africa Nations will now be transmitted live through SuperSport.

Fans have been jubilating following the announcement while commending MultiChoice for bringing the 2023 AFCON live matches to millions of Nigerian homes.
A Twitter user identified as HOLY BOY @Azeez_Aries30 said: “Better o… Because I’ve already concluded that I won’t be renewing my subscription for the next three months.”
Edafe Peter’s @massive_Edafe10 added: “Thank God say una head don finally correct like imagine not broadcasting the African cup of nations before…”
Ikarez @ikarez007 said: “Better, I was about to abandon my DStv or sell it off.”
Milan @kingbollei also commended MultiChoice for bringing AFCON matches to their esteemed subscribers.
“This is commendable we gather de,” @kingbollei said on his Twitter handle.
AKIN @Akinjoshua2017 added: “Now it’s time to reduce the prices of your package.”
According to a report on the SuperSport website, MultiChoice secured the 2023 AFCON broadcast rights through a third party since it could not buy the rights from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“MultiChoice reached a commercially viable agreement with rightsholders, New World TV (NWTV), to broadcast the 34th edition of Africa’s premier men’s football competition taking place in Ivory Coast.”
Rendani Ramovha, SuperSport CEO, said: “We are delighted to be able to showcase the best of African football live to our viewers.”
Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and StarTimes had earlier secured the broadcasting rights for all 52 AFCON matches between January 13 and February 11 in Ivory Coast.
