The Ondo State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 13 people in a fatal road accident at Abule Panu, before Ose Bridge, on the Owo-Ikare highway, Ondo State.
The fatal crash, which occurred at about 10:14 am on Saturday, claimed the lives of 13 commuters in two buses.
The FRSC sector commander for the state, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, said that a total of 14 people were involved, of which 13 were burnt beyond recognition, while only one was rescued with serious injuries.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the bus coming from the Ikare axis had a tyre burst, which led to a loss of control and a resultant head-on collision with the bus loaded with fabrics coming from the Owo axis.
Sources said the two buses went up in flames immediately after the collision.
It was reliably gathered that men from the FRSC, Police, and Fire Services were swiftly at the crash scene for rescue.
The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
