Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of a commercial driver and nine of his passengers in a road accident that occurred along Hadejia-Kano Express Road in Taura LGA of the state.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, explained in a statement issued on Tuesday that the accident occurred when a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number HDJ 631 YDD rammed into a stationed trailer; a crash that he stressed caused the vehicle to somersault.
According to the statement, the ill-fated bus driven by one Sani Mainasara of Hadejia LGA was conveying a total of 10 passengers from Kano to Hadejia when the tragedy occurred.
“On the receipt of the tragic incident, the police patrol team attached to Taura Division raced to the scene, the statement disclosed, adding that the corpses of the deceased were evacuated to Hadejia General Hospital for medical examinations, where the medical doctor on call certified them dead.
The statement added that the sole surviving passenger was, however, admitted to Majia Primary Health Care Centre, where he has been responding to treatment.
“An investigation has begun, and anyone found guilty will face legal consequences,” the statement stated.
